for Different Skin Types

WHY IS WINTER SKINCARE IMPORTANT?

Winter can take a toll on your skin, whether oily, dry, combo, or sensitive. skin gets exposed  to extreme weather conditions: cold air, biting wind, and sun reflecting off the snow. Low humidity is common in colder climates stealing moisture from the skin every second of every day. Even indoor heating pull the moisture from your skin leaving it dull and dry. At this time of year, the skin’s natural moisture barrier can easily be damaged, leading to issues like dryness, redness, itching or flakiness. This can further cause premature aging, irritation, or sensitivity.

That's why it is essential to adjust your skincare routine for the season to keep your skin healthy and glowing. Hydration and protection become even more important during winter, and using the right products can counteract and retian lost moiture. From gentle cleansers to hydrating essences and rich moisturizers, switching to the best winter skincare routine designed for winter can make all the difference in keeping your skin hydrated and nourished.
Identify your skin type first!

5 Common Skin Types

1. Normal Skin:
Normal skin is well-balanced with neither excessive oiliness nor dryness. It typically has a smooth texture, small pores, and an ideal healthy-looking complexion. Normal skin is less prone to sensitivity or breakouts, making it the least problematic of all skin types.
2. Dry Skin:
Dry skin lacks sebum and moisture and often feels tight, brittle and rough. As a result, dry skin lacks the lipids that it needs to retain moisture and build a protective shield against external influences. This leads to an impaired barrier function. It may appear flaky and be more susceptible to signs of premature ageing like fine lines and wrinkles.
3. Oily Skin:
'Oily' is used to describe a skin type with heightended sebum production, leading to a shiny appearance, especially in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). It is prone to enlarged, clearly visible pores and is more susceptible to blemishes and breakouts due to the excessive amount of oil and debris.
4. Combination Skin:
Combination skin is characterised by having areas that are both oily (usually the T-zone) and noramal to dry (cheeks). It may have enlarged pores with some impurities.
5. Sensitive Skin:
Sensitive skin is easily irritated by external factors such as weather, skincare products, or environmental pollutants. People with sensitive skin feel unpleasant symptoms including tingling, tightness, redness, itching, or heating sensations.
Step 1. Double Cleanse
Etude Talk
In winter, it is necessary to switch to a cleanser that won’t wash off natural oils of your skin. Alongside the removal of  dirt, oil, and makeup, winter cleansers should be rich in hydrating lipids. Also, make sure to remove your makeup with a lip&eye remover and cleansing oil before using foam cleanser. This technique is called "double cleansing". Step 3. Hydrating Emulsion & Essence
Etude Talk

What is the differnece between emulsion and essence?

Emulsions and essences are very similiar in terms of their functions and placement in a skincare routine, but they mainly differ in texture. Emulsions are more concentrated and denser, acting as a milky moisturizer with a gel-like consistency, while essences are lighter, water-based products with a more fluid texture. They both deliver powerful ingredients directly into the skin and soothe it. This makes them excellent for addressing specific skin concerns, such as wrinkles. Apply a few drops onto your skin and gently pat it with your hands. You may apply both emulsion and essence, or skip one of them depending on your prefernece.

Etude Talk
If your skin needs extra hydration after being exposed to harsh winds and cold temperatures, you definately need special care with a facial mask! After washing and toning your face, adjust the mask to fit around your eyes, nose and mouth, and leave it on for 15-20 mins. After removing the sheet mask, gently pat the remaining essence. You can replace step 3 with a facial mask if desired.

Etude Talk
Finally! It is time to apply moisturizing cream - the highlight of your routine. Moisturizers are excellent for locking in all the hard-earned moisture and nutrients from the previous steps, and they help maintain the skin's protective barrier throughout the night. Take an appropriate amount and gently pat into your skin for optimal absorption.

Additional Tip!

Did you know that the area under the eyes is one of the areas most susceptible to wrinkles?

Wrinkles around the eyes often appear first because the skin around the eyes is thin, lacks oil glands, and has many blood vessels. Additonally, the skin in this area is more prone to repeated movement, which makes wrinkles more likely to form. Therefore, it is recommended to use an eye cream!
